Monitoring of Saker Falcons in Austria
Since 2010 the Research Institute of Wildlife Ecology from the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna (FIWI) together with BirdLife Austria regularly surveys the state of the Austrian saker falcon population during the breeding season. BirdLife checks on the natural breeding sites, while the FIWI focuses on the artificial nesting aids on the high voltage power line pylons. This way, the FIWI and BirdLife form a strong alliance for the saker falcon in Austria. Together they keep track of the population in the entire Austrian distribution range.
